Annual North Fork Pow Wow canceled due to Willow fire

The annual North Fork Pow Wow at the North Fork Recreation Center, scheduled for this weekend, has been canceled because of the nearby Willow fire.

The Sierra Mono Museum board voted to cancel the event, which was set for Saturday and Sunday.

“The safety of our visitors, dancers and volunteers are a top priority for us,” said museum director Kaitlin Kincade.

Kincade said although the museum is unable to reschedule the Pow Wow, it will continue to hold a raffle during the North Fork Chamber of Commerce’s Hot August Nights Car Show on Aug. 8 in downtown North Fork from 5 to 9 p.m. Also, the committee will crown the Pow Wow Princess during the car show. Raffle tickets will be on sale at the car show.

Due to the fire, the Sierra Mono Museum is currently closed.
