Thousands line up for annual backpack giveaway Friday at downtown Fresno’s Eaton Plaza
Comcast and United Way of Fresno County gave out more than 2,500 free backpacks filled with books, paper, pencils and other school supplies to students aged 5 to 15 on Friday at Eaton Plaza in the fifth annual school backpack giveaway.
Organizers also offered information to families on whether they qualify for low-cost Internet services and subsidized computer equipment.
The event also featured an outdoor showing of “Big Hero 6.”
Organizers say that Comcast and United Way gave away nearly 6,000 backpacks to Fresno families in the first four years.
