UPDATED Friday, Nov. 22: Candidates in some close races from the Nov. 5 election in Fresno County are still waiting the completion of vote-counting by local election officials.

In the latest update issued late Friday afternoon, the Fresno County Clerk/Registrar of Voters reported that almost 321,000 ballots have been processed and counted. But there remain about 5,600 more ballots from throughout the county that are yet to be tallied, in addition to about 4,800 ballots with signature issues – either unsigned ballot-return envelopes or signatures that don’t match voter registration records.

It’s unknown how many of the remaining uncounted ballots may be from any given city or school district, which means some very tight races could still be tilted as the county nears completion of counting. Fresno County’s next update won’t be issued until Wednesday afternoon, a day before the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Turnout countywide now stands at about 63.8%, well under the benchmark of almost 75% from the 2020 presidential election. Fresno County had about 511,300 registered voters for the Nov. 5 election.

The closest election contest as of Friday afternoon’s results is in the tiny city of San Joaquin, in western Fresno County. Five candidates are competing for three seats on the City Council, and only two votes currently separate the third- and fourth-place hopefuls.

And there’s a squeaky-tight race in the Kingsburg Joint Union High School District that encompasses portions of southern Fresno County, northeastern Kings County and northwestern Tulare County. Measure A, a $20 million bond for school improvements, is a mere 25 votes shy of the 55% majority needed to pass, out of more than 7,750 votes cast in the district across all three counties.

Here’s a complete collection of results for the contested city council races, the Fresno County Board of Supervisors, school boards and school bonds, other municipal ballot measures, and special district boards of directors.
