Veterans Day in Fresno County: Here’s a roundup of events happening this year

Communities across Fresno County are gathering to honor military service members past and present.

Events range from a parade and pancake breakfasts to concerts and a car show.

Here’s a roundup of some of the Veterans Day events taking place around the Central Valley:

Fresno City College Veterans Day

Fresno City College is celebrating Veterans Day as well as the 31st anniversary of the Veterans Peace Memorial on the college’s campus.

Dedicated on Nov. 9, 1993, the monument is surrounded on three sides by the Court of Honor. It serves as a “reminder of the wars and conflicts fought by our citizen-soldiers to preserve our freedom,” the college said in a news release.

While the Veterans Day celebration honors all military service members, Fresno City College will recognize Gulf War veterans at the 2024 event. The keynote speaker for this year will be Fresno County Sheriff Deputy Paul Haros.

Veterans Day Parade

The 105th annual Central Valley Veteran’s Day parade will start at Fresno City Hall and wind through downtown Fresno.

It features classic cars, color guards, marching bands and more.

The 2024 event is sponsored by Table Mountain Rancheria Casino and Resort as well as Clovis Veterans Memorial District.

When: 9:30 to 11:11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11

Clovis Veterans Day

Join the Clovis Veterans Memorial District in celebrating Veterans Day with a variety of activities

In addition to a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., the community celebration includes a car show with a live band from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a patriotic concert at 11 a.m.

Also in store are a blood drive and screenings of documentaries about veterans.

The Community Heritage Center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The veterans memorial district also holds an annual Veterans Day dinner to honor local veterans.

Kingsburg Veterans Day breakfast

Commemorate Veterans Day in Kingsburg with a pancake breakfast.

The event is sponsored by Kingsburg Lions Club and Corsaro’s Family Pizza, according to an Instagram post.

When: 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov 11

How much: Donation $5 donation, free for veterans

Knights of Columbus Breakfast

The Knights of Columbus is hosting a Veterans Day breakfast that’s open to community members. The menu features eggs, potatoes, sausage, pancakes, orange juice and coffee.

When: After 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. masses, Sunday, Nov. 10

Field of Honor flag display and breakfast

On Veterans Day weekend, hundreds of U.S. flags will be displayed on the event lawn of Tesoro Viejo’s Town Center to “pay tribute to those brave men and women who serve protecting our nation’s freedom,” the Madera planned community said on its website.

Each flag in the Field of Honor display will have a card displaying the name of a military veteran, their branch of service and the years they served, Tesoro Viejo said.

Tesoro Viejo will also host a breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 11, that includes pancakes, sausages, bacon, juice and coffee.
