Wildfire east of Porterville forces one-lane traffic on Highway 190

Traffic is limited to one lane on Highway 190 east of Springville due to a wildfire that burned Tuesday between the highway and the Tule River.

The highway lane closure started Tuesday night and continues Wednesday as firefighters work along the highway to supress the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire at 5 acres.

The Stairs fire was located between Coffee Camp Day Use Area and the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Powerhouse on the Western Divide Ranger District in Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest. It’s about 20 miles east of Porterville.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
