Heat advisory issued for Fresno area. How long will triple-digit temperatures last?
Triple-digit temperatures are returning to the Fresno area, and the heat could break records, according to the National Weather Service.
“There remains a high probability (70% to 90%) of 100-degree heat to return to the San Joaquin Valley this week.” the National Weather Service wrote in an X post.
On Monday, Sept. 30, the weather service issued a heat advisory for the San Joaquin Valley the Sierra Nevada foothills and other areas.
“Afternoon temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday have the opportunity to set new monthly record highs,” the agency said in the X post
“We’re actually going to be very close to having record highs right now for Fresno,” said Carlos Molina, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Temperatures will start to cool down by Saturday, the weather service said.

Heat advisory issued for San Joaquin Valley
According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, to 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
“Hot conditions (are) expected with temperatures reaching up to 106 degrees during the period,” the weather service said, adding that “moderate heat risks” are expected.
Cities affected by the heat advisory include Coalinga, Porterville, Taft, Lemoore, Fresno, Los Banos, Tulare, San Luis Reservoir, Hanford, Visalia, Madera and Bakersfield.
“Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during high heat events, the weather service said.
What’s in the weather forecast for Fresno?
Fresno was expected to see sunny weather and calm winds on Monday with a high temperature near 95 degrees, according to the National Weather Service’s latest seven day forecast.
The overnight low temperature will be around 66 degrees.
According to the weather service, Tuesday is expected to be sunny and hot, with a high of 100 and a low around 68.
On Wednesday, the high will be near 102 while the low will drop down to around 69.
Thursday will have a high near 101 and an overnight low around 69.
Friday’s high will near 100, while the low will dip to about 70.
Slightly cooler temperatures are expected over the weekend, with highs near 99 on Saturday and Sunday.
Lows will be around 69, the weather service said.
How long will the heat wave last?
According to the weather service, temperatures will start dropping by early next week.
“By next Monday, the temperature will drop down to 95 degrees,” Molina said. “It may stay in the 90s, at least through the first half of October.”
How to stay safe during hot weather
The National Weather Service offered these tips for how to stay safe during hot weather:
- Stay hydrated
- Wear light colors and loose-fitting clothes
- Stay in the shade as much as possible
- Take extra precautions when outside
- Stay out of the sun
- Stay in an air-conditioned room.
- Look out for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
