Fresno State plans to re-install a plaque that was displaced from the Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument on campus.

Two people noticed the displaced plaque while walking by the monument around 3:30 p.m. Friday, the university said.

The steel plaque, which weighs about 50 pounds, was found unbolted, but it was not taken from the memorial.

The incident may have been an attempted theft for salvage value, but the weight may have prevented it from being carried away, said Debbie Adishian-Astone, interim Vice President for Administration.

The Fresno State police department is investigating the incident, while the plaque is expected to be re-installed next week.
