Pedestrian in crosswalk injured in collision at busy Fresno intersection, police say

A pedestrian is in the hospital Friday after he was struck by a vehicle at a busy Fresno intersection.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded to Shaw and Valentine avenues at 10:30 a.m. and found a man in the road.

Emergency personnel arrived and took the man to the hospital. He was in critical condition.

Fresno Police Officer Luke Tran said a white vehicle was traveling east on Shaw in the No. 2 lane when he struck the pedestrian who was crossing south on Valentine in the crosswalk but did not have the green light.

The driver remained on scene and was cooperative. The vehicle had damage to the windshield.

Traffic going east on Shaw was being diverted through the Big Lots parkinglot. Officers will remain on scene for another hour, Tran said.
