Fresno police Monday continued efforts to find the cause of death of an newborn infant found July 2 in a backyard in southeast Fresno, as well as to locate the newborn girl’s parents.

Officers sent to the home in the 300 block of South Backer Ave. reportedly were told by residents there that they found the baby in the yard, with no idea how she came to be there.

Police spokesman Bill Dooley in an update Monday said an autopsy conducted Saturday determined that the infant was born shortly before her body was found.

Additional testing will be conducted to find a cause of death as well as whether she was alive at birth.

Police are asking for help from the public. A $5,000 reward from Valley Crime Stoppers is being offered for information leading to the identification of those involved in the incident.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 559-598-7867 or detective J. Espinoza at 559-621-2415, or detective V. Miranda at 559-621-2482.
