Woman ID’d in fatal crash near Fashion Fair Mall. Car had been fleeing from police

A 31-year-old Fresno woman has been identified as the person killed in a crash behind Fashion Fair Mall on Friday.

The Fresno County Coroner’s confirmed Tuesday that Shaylee Henry died after being struck by a car behind the baseball backstop at Cary Park just south of the mall in Fresno just before 8:30 p.m.

The car also hit a 30-year-old man, who was hospitalized in stable condition.

According to police, the crash followed a failed traffic stop, in which the driver of the suspect car led officers on a short pursuit. That chase was ultimately canceled, but the driver continued through the Fashion Fair parking lot. The car eventually jumped a curb, striking Henry and the man, police said.

The car then drove into a neighborhood west of the mall where it struck a telephone pole. The driver and a passenger fled the scene and were not immediately found, though officers canvassed the area, police said.

Detectives continue to investigate.

A GoFundMe campaign is raising money to help cover funeral costs for Henry.
