A motorcycle rider died Friday afternoon following a collision in central Fresno.

The crash happened at 1 p.m. at McKinley Avenue and Effie Street when the motorcyclist was traveling east on McKinley from Blackstone when he struck a pickup truck, police said.

Citizens helped the rider in his 20s before he was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he died, police said.

Sgt. Mark Van Wyhe at the scene said the rider was on a Yamaha and it was believed he was going at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the truck wasn’t injured and was cooperative with officers.

The intersection was closed for several hours.
