UPDATE: The victim was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Jonathan Harper, 36, of Fresno.

ORIGINAL STORY: A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night in Fresno.

Officers responded to the collision just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of the collision on Blackstone Avenue, just south of Ashlan Avenue, Fresno police Lt. Leslie Williams said.

A man in his 30 was lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead.

According to witnesses, the man ran across the roadway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle, Williams said.

She said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and did not appear to be under the influence.
