One dead after Delano-area crash

A female passenger is dead after an early morning crash near Delano on Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened at around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Stradley Avenue and Schuster Road. The intersection is a two-way stop.

Yolanda Regalado-Martinez, 44, of Tulare, was driving south on Stradley Avenue when she stopped at the stop sign. As she pulled into the intersection, Francisco Vasquez, 48, of Delano, was driving east on Schuster Road at around 50 to 55 mph and collided with Regalado-Martinez, the CHP said.

The crash caused both vehicles to go off the road. Regalado-Martinez’s vehicle spun and then smashed into the stop sign at the southeast corner, the CHP said. The rear seat passenger was thrown out and killed.

Regalado-Martinez had moderate injuries and a third passenger, Victor Manuel, 27, of Tulare had only minor injuries. Both were transported to Delano Regional Medical Center.

Vazquez and his passenger, Esperanza Vasquez, 44, of Delano, had minor injuries.
