Two children dead in Fresno County house fire. Mom tried to save her kids, deputies say
Two siblings were killed Sunday morning when fire engulfed a home in Fresno County.
Fresno County Fire Battalion Chief Seth Brown said the department received several calls about a home and a vehicle on fire at 9:30 a.m. in the 12000 block of East Kamm Avenue, north of Kingsburg.
Firefighters arrived and saw a shop and another home that were also on fire, Brown said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the car fire before going inside the home. There they found the two victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl was 7; her brother, 8, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday afternoon.
The cause of the two-alarm fire is under investigation.
Brown said that when crews arrived, “many people were around running around frantically.
“There were some (who) actually even approached the fire engines to try to take equipment off the engines before the firefighters were able to get out.”
One person was injured when the children’s mother rammed a vehicle into the blazing home in an effort to save the children, deputies said.
The mother told deputies that she was inside the home when the fire broke out and was unable to get her children, who were in another room, so she got into her SUV to intentionally crash it into the house to create a hole.
Fresno County Fire received assistance from Kingsburg City Fire, Selma City Fire, Tulare County Fire and Kings County Fire.
