Man runs onto Fresno roadway while trying to flee from another person. Then a car hit him

Fresno police

A man landed in the hospital Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle in east-central Fresno.

The collision happened just after 9 p.m. at N. Maple and E. Shields avenues.

A pedestrian was being chased by someone running after him, then he suddenly got hit by a compact car, Fresno police Lt. Henry Garcia III said.

The pedestrian, who is in his 40s, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. His status is unknown.

It was unclear why the man was chased.

Garcia said the person(s) who ran after the pedestrian left the scene. The driver of the compact car, which was a Chevy Cruze, remained at the scene and was not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
