Book-signing fundraiser honors recent Parlier High School graduate

Poet and author Micki Avila will host a book-signing fundraiser honoring Zenaida Benito on Aug. 1 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m at Campesino Services, 610 Fresno St., Parlier.

Benito, 18, is a recent Parlier High School graduate whose mother, Irma Pascual Cruz, died in June from a diabetic seizure, leaving behind three daughters. Benito is attempting to gain legal guardianship of her younger siblings.

Avila, a Parlier-Reedley area native, will sign the first 250 copies of her latest book, “Just Beyond the Poet’s Bridge,” for those who make a donation.

All proceeds go to Benito and her sisters. Refreshments will be served.
