Vehicle overturns and 6 injured in chain reaction suspected DUI crash, Fresno police say

Six people were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after a suspected DUI crash in Fresno involving multiple vehicles.

Officers responded to the collision at 3:45 p.m. at Willow and Olive avenues.

Fresno police Sgt. Brian Chadwick said a blue sedan was traveling west on Olive Avenue at a high rate of speed when it approached Willow and the driver ran a red light. It collided with a white vehicle that was making a left turn before crashing into another vehicle, which overturned, that was going eastbound.

Police said initially that four people were in critical condition, but they were all updated to serious condition. Two additional people had complaints of pain.

Chadwick said there were open and non-opened alcohol containers found in the blue sedan. The driver of the vehicle was also taken to the hospital.

Officers will conduct a DUI investigation on the driver.

A man at the scene who said he was the father of one of the victims told The Bee his son was the one making a turn when he was hit. He said his son was OK and went home with a family member.
