Breastfeeding walk scheduled for Woodward Park

The Babies First Breastfeeding Task Force will host the 10th annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk and Celebration Aug. 1 at Woodward Park’s Mountain View Shelter.

Check-in for the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and the event starts at 9:30 a.m. Last year, more than 700 people participated in the event, which includes music and community booths.

The walk also will include the “Big Latch On,” a worldwide breastfeeding event. All Latch On sites in the United States are aiming to set a new record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously for one minute. Last year, 72 moms in Fresno participated.

The Fresno walk, part of World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-7, is held to promote awareness about the health benefits of breastfeeding and to reduce the stigma and to support mothers who make breastfeeding their choice as the “first step to a healthy life.”
