An Italian restaurant in the Tower District was damaged by a fire Thursday that could potentially affect when it can open again, a Fresno Fire Department spokesperson said.
Smoke was reported coming from the roof of Oggi Cosi Si Mangia about 7:20 a.m. Thursday that brought 34 firefighters, five engines, two ladder trucks and other personnel from the fire department, according to engineer Josh Sellers, the department’s acting spokesperson.
The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen, he said, stressing the investigation was ongoing and the exact cause of the blaze was pending.
No one was inside at the time of the fire, he said. The inside of the restaurant sustained smoke damage but the flames were contained to the kitchen and attic.
Sellers could not immediately say exactly how long Oggi would be closed.
“The kitchen sustained significant damage,” he said. “They’re not going to be open anytime soon.”
Attempts to reach representatives of the restaurant were unsuccessful Thursday morning.
