United Way branches in Madera, Fresno counties unite
United Way of Fresno and its neighboring Madera County branch have teamed up to provide more programs and services, according to United Way Worldwide.
“It is a very special opportunity for both counties because we can combine our talents and expertise while still focusing on the separate issues that are most critical to the people in Fresno and Madera counties,” said Bob Reyes, chairman of United Way of Fresno and Madera counties.
The 2-1-1 system, a 24-hour nonemergency helpline, connects people to services including emergency food, utility assistance, counseling, shelter and tax assistance and others. Volunteers are being sought.
The first event for the new United Way Fresno and Madera Counties, (UWFMC) is a backpack giveaway held on Aug. 14 at Lions Town and Country Park in conjunction with Madera Movies in the Park. Sponsored by Crown Homes of Madera, over 600 backpacks filled with school supplies will be donated.
