Motorcyclist killed in collision with SUV in Fresno. Police say victim was in his 20s

A motorcyclist was killed Monday evening in east central Fresno in a collision with the driver of an SUV, the Fresno Police Department reported.

The crash took place about 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Chestnut and East Weldon avenues, said Lt. Leslie Williams.

Chestnut was closed for several hours as the department’s Collusion Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident, Williams added.

The initial investigation determined that the Toyota SUV driver was southbound on Chestnut and making a left turn onto Weldon when he collided with the motorcyclist, who was northbound on Chestnut, said Williams.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, attempted to save the rider’s life, but the victim, a man in his 20s, died at the scene.

Williams said it did not initially appear that drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal incident.
