Man struck by train near Fresno City College. What police say preceded accident

An unhoused man was seriously injured Wednesday night when he was struck by a freight train near Fresno City College, Fresno police reported.

The collision took place shortly before 8 p.m. at Clinton and College avenues.

Sgt. Paul Zarasua said the victim was one of several unhoused people near the tracks when an argument erupted.

The victim was struck by the train, possibly unintentionally, police said.

Paramedics at the scene worked to stabilize the victim before taking him to a hospital.

The train tracks near the Maroa-and-Clinton intersection has been the sight of previous crashes.

In June, a pedestrian was stuck by a train and died at the scene.
