Body recovered from Fresno canal, battalion chief says. Investigation ongoing

The body of a man was pulled from a canal in central Fresno on Thursday, firefighters said.

Someone walking near the canal at McKinley and Millbrook avenues saw a body pinned against machinery used to strain the waterway about 6:30 a.m., Battalion Chief Bob Camp said.

Fire crews reached the canal within a few minutes and pulled the man from the water, he said.

Little information was known about the man and the investigation was ongoing.

Camp said the water in canals is swift and cold and people should avoid the waterway, which may appear slower than it is.
