Body pulled from Fresno canal, police say. Detectives investigating it as a crime

A body was pulled from a southeast Fresno canal on Wednesday, police said.

Callers reported seeing a body in the waterway about 9:30 a.m. near Mckinley and Cedar avenues, Lt. Bill Dooley said in an email.

Police and the Fresno Fire Department responded and confirmed the person had died, he said. Police did not immediately provide the gender or age of the person.

Detectives are treating the case as suspicious as a precaution, but Dooley said it was not clear if the body was related to a suicide or crime.

McKinley was expected to be obstructed in the area by police and fire vehicles for an hour or two, police said.

Police stand near the Fresno canal on Mckinley near Millbrook avenues on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, where a body was pulled from the water before 10 a.m., according to police.
