Hot nights, rain expected in Fresno. Is there a temperature break in the near future?
The National Weather Service has issued another heat advisory for Central California, where triple-digit heat is expected for the work week.
Temperatures hit 100-plus on Monday — and the heat could peak at 107 over the next five days as a ridge of high pressure builds over the area.
Highs are expected at 105 in Fresno, according to the weather service.
At the same time, the remnants of Tropical Storm Eugene continue to bring in some moisture, and there is a chance of thunderstorms across the Mojave Desert and Sierra Nevada through Monday night.
“Stray thunderstorms/showers pushing into the Valley is not out of the question,” the weather service said in its daily forecast discussion.
The Sierra Nevada could see afternoon and evening thunderstorms through the week, producing small hail and wind gusts near 45 mph.
On the Valley floor, heat remains the big risk, especially with overnights lows expected near 80s degrees, “ almost 10 degrees above normal,” the weather service said.
This month, Fresno has seen just four days of triple-digit heat.
Things will be somewhat cooler for the weekend.
Temperatures will be near normal (highs in the mid-90s, low in the mid-60s) by Friday, through Fresno is expected to be at 98 degrees that day.
