Victim killed in Hwy. 41 crash ID’d. Lemoore woman was loving grandmother, family says
The woman killed in a chain reaction crash on Highway 41 southeast of Caruthers was identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
Belinda Chacon, 47, of Lemoore was in a Toyota Corolla that was struck from behind and ended up with a full-size work truck on top of it about 12:45 p.m. Monday, the coroner confirmed.
The crash involved four vehicles, the Californian Highway Patrol said. CalFire treated five patients — one with minor injuries, three with less serious injuries and the fifth was the fatality.
A family friend of Chacon setup a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses. She was as a loving mother and grandmother, the page says.
“She is remembered by her four children and grandchildren whom she adored and cared for greatly,” the page says. “I’d like to ... help give Belinda the proper funeral and memorial she deserves, (and) to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes.”
CHP said it was unclear what caused the crash, but a southbound Ford heavy-duty F-450 pickup failed to stop and rear-ended a Toyota Corolla that was stopped on 41 at Elkhorn Avenue.
The Toyota was pushed into a Chevrolet Cruz that was also stopped, and the momentum pushed it into a big rig trailer. The F-450 came to a rest on top of the Toyota, killing Chacon.
