Highway fire near downtown Fresno slowing evening commute, CHP reports
A embankment fire on southbound Highway 41 was causing congestion for commuters leaving downtown Fresno Monday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fire erupted shortly before 4:30 p.m. near the Tulare Street onramps.
The CHP said the cause was a tree was on fire. Heavy smoke in the area was reported and traffic was backing up at the junction of highways 41 and 99.
Traffic on the highway by around 5:30 p.m. was moving again and the roads near the downtown onramps were being reopened.
