Water main break causes temporary closure of Fresno County courthouse

Empty flagpoles flank the sidewalk ramp to the Fresno County Courthouse from Courthouse Park in downtown Fresno on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. A new county ordinance, set to receive a final vote on June 6, would permit only the U.S. flag and California state flag to be flown on official flagpoles at county owned, leased or operated buildings, facilities or parks.

The Fresno Superior Courthouse was temporarily closed Monday after construction in Courthouse Park resulted in a water main break.

As crews worked to repair the damage, court officials suspended operations at the main courthouse for the protection of the health and safety of court employees, justice partners and the public.

Any matters on Monday’s court calendar will be rescheduled, and the parties will be notified of the new date.

The closure affects only the main courthouse, 1100 Van Ness Ave. Other court locations remained open.
