18-year-old killed in a Madera County crash. Driver hit a water main, CHP says

An 18-year-old Madera man was killed early Sunday in a crash into a water main, west of the Madera Ranchos area, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The fatal incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on Avenue 12, west of Road 30 1/2.

The CHP said the driver was traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet Tahoe when he drove off the roadway, hit the main and overturned.

The driver was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene, CHP officials said.

The CHP did not say whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the death.
