Woman ejected and killed, another one injured after car flips south of Fresno

A woman was killed after she was ejected from vehicle that overturned and another woman suffered moderate injuries from a crash Friday evening that happened just beyond Fresno’s southern city limits.

Seat belts may have played a role in who survived the Fresno County crash.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of Del Ray and Jensen avenues.

California Highway Patrol said a vehicle with middle-aged women inside made an unsafe turn, and ended up flipped off the roadway.

The passenger wasn’t not wearing her seat belt and got ejected from the vehicle, CHP Sgt. Joseph Bianchi said.

The driver was wearing her seat belt and remained in the overturned car before the fire department removed her.

Both women were taken to a local hospital.

The passenger, however, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the hospital, Bianchi said.

The driver, who had her seat bet on, sustained moderate injuries, Bianchi added.

CHP is investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the solo crash.
