Fresno police detective dies after illness. She worked domestic violence, child abuse cases
A Fresno Police officer who spent years working on domestic violence and child abuse cases has died.
Officer Ana Elizabeth Chavarin lost her long battle with cancer at 39 years old and died on June 1 at her home. Services were held in her honor Thursday morning.
“An amazing detective and an even better human being,” Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama wrote on social media. “Det. Ana Chavarin fought valiantly against cancer until the very end. Our thoughts, prayers, and support go out to her parents and sister.”
Chavarin, a Salinas native, had been with the Fresno Police since graduating from the police academy in 2009. She received a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Fresno State in 2007.
During her law enforcement career, Chavarin served as a detective for the Domestic Violence Unit, Missing Persons Unit, Child Abuse Unit, and the Violent Crime Impact Team.
She worked closely with vulnerable individuals to give them a voice and help them reach resolutions in their investigations, according to her online obituary.
Her final call sign was 6Charles11.
Chavarin is survived by her mother and father, Marian and Pascual, as well as her sisters Sylvia and Gabriella.
“Rest in peace Ana,” Balderrama said. “We will miss you.”
