The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the man found in a canal on Wednesday.

He was Melvin Chatmon-Knowlton, 58, of Fresno.

The sheriff’s office received a call just after 8 p.m. of a body floating in the canal at Weldon and Mayfair avenues in Fresno.

Deputies and the Fresno Fire Department responded to the location and found Chatmon-Knowlton in the canal.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, spokesman Tony Botti said.

No foul play is suspected, Botti said.
