A 12-year-old boy and his 13-year-old sister were arrested on Sunday, accused of stealing more than $4,000 worth of merchandise from a Visalia Ulta Beauty Store.

Police responded to the store on Mooney Boulevard around 6 p.m. and were told that two children came into the store with bags, loaded them with display items and then ran out of the store. The childreb — both from Fresno — were found hiding in the bathroom at a nearby Chipotle, according to police.

The children’s mother was found in the parking lot and arrested on a separate theft-related warrant.

The 13-year-old was booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility on suspicion of grand theft. The boy was released to Child Welfare Services because of his age, police said.
