Suspicious device found on Fresno sidewalk in area west of Highway 99

The Fresno Police Department shut down a major street for several hours Friday night before determining a suspicious device found there was not a threat.

The device was found around 8:20 p.m. by a person who was walking on McKinley Avenue near Polk Avenue, west of Highway 99, Lt. Zeb Price said.

Officers arrived and located the device and called out the bomb squad to investigate.

Officers blocked off McKinley between Cornelia and Polk avenues for several hours. Price said officers told residents they could leave their homes during the investigation.
