Father and 13-year-old daughter identified as victims of fatal crash in Fresno County

A Fresno man and his 13-year-old daughter were identified Wednesday as the two who died in a head-on collision in eastern Fresno County.

Joe Alvarez, 33, and his daughter, Analiea Alvarez, were in a 2006 Jeep Liberty when it collided with a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado on Highway 180 about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday between Alta and Frankwood avenues before the fatal crash, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office confirmed.

The Jeep was traveling at a high rate of speed and for unknown reasons Alvarez allowed it to cross the center yellow lines in front of the Chevy towing a utility trailer, CHP said.

The Chevy truck was driven by a 44-year-old Woodlake man and was carrying two children, who were 16 and 4, CHP said.

The vehicles collided head-on, ejecting the father driving the Jeep, CHP said. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

The younger Alvarez had critical injuries and was flown to Community Regional Medical Center, where she later died, CHP said. She was restrained.

The driver of the Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries. The 16-year-old and 4-year-old were not injured, but were also taken to CRMC for observation.

Two people were killed and others injured Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in a crash on Highway 180 near Alta Avenue, California Highway Patrol said.
