Cyclist collides with passing truck on road to Bass Lake, airlifted to hospital, CHP says
An Oakhurst cyclist was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center on Saturday afternoon after he was involved in a collision with a pickup truck on the road to Bass Lake.
The cyclist was on the right shoulder of Road 222 near Dorstan Drive and began to make a U-turn as a Dodge Ram was driving by, the California Highway Patrol reported. The cyclist struck the side of the truck.
The man, who is 56 and was not wearing a helmet, was knocked off the bicycle and suffered head injuries. His identity and condition at the hospital were not immediately available.
The speed limit on that stretch of four-lane road just east of Nelder Creek is 55 mph.
