Councilmember Garry Bredefeld announces plans to run for Fresno County office
Fresno City Councilmember Garry Bredefeld announced plans Saturday to run for a Fresno County Board of Supervisors seat in 2024.
In a tweet, Bredefeld said he plans to run in District 2, which covers part of Clovis to northwest Fresno.
It’s currently represented by Steve Brandau.
The announcement said, in part: “For the past 6 years, I’ve served on the Fresno City Council and have been fighting against radical, woke and destructive policies that have hurt our City, County, State and nation. I fought against the authoritarian and tyrannical lockdowns, keeping children out of school and exposed corruption at City Hall. I’ve been a fighter my whole life and I don’t and won’t ever back down to the radicals that try to silence my constituents and those that share our Conservative beliefs and values.”
Bredefeld currently represents District 6 covering north Fresno, mostly east of Highway 41.
He is a vocal conservative, speaking out against a family-friendly drag show and calling on leaders to deny a Fresno branch of Planned Parenthood $1 million in state funding in recent months.
He often clashes with more liberal-leaning members of the council.
Bredefeld may not be the only one running in the 2024 supervisor election.
California Assemblyman Jim Patterson, R-Fresno, said in November that he wants to “come home” after 12 years in the Legislature and is likely to run for the office. But Patterson announced Saturday evening that he would not seek public office in 2024.
In November, incumbent Brandau told The Bee he plans to run for another term on the county board in 2024.
Brandau has held the District 2 seat since 2019.
