Clovis man jailed in fatal Los Banos drag race crash

A Clovis man is in jail on charges including manslaughter and felony DUI after a drag race in Los Banos Sunday morning led to a fatal rollover accident, police said.

Marcus Perez-Negrete, 20, of Clovis, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Santa Rita Avenue and D Street in Los Banos in a drag race with 19-year-old Casey Lynnmarie Giannone when he collided with a red 2005 Chevy Aveo, according to Los Banos police.

A 61-year-old man riding in the Aveo was killed. The driver of the Aveo was taken to Memorial Hospital Los Banos where he was treated for moderate injuries and released.

Perez-Negrete’s passenger was also taken to Memorial Hospital Los Banos with minor injuries.

Perez-Negrete is in custody at the John Latoracca Correctional Center in lieu of $404,432 bail. In addition to manslaughter and DUI, he faces charges of DUI under 21, reckless driving resulting in injury, speed contest and related charges.

Giannone was arrested on suspicion of intoxicated driving, DUI under 21, unlicensed driving, reckless driving resulting in injury and speed contest. Giannone’s hometown was unavailable.
