Fires erupt at Fresno apartments, including one blaze that burned a woman’s face

One person was injured and six others were forced out of an apartment that was damaged by a fire Tuesday evening in central Fresno, the fire department reported.

The fire erupted about 5:30 p.m. at Angus and Weldon avenues.

The injured person suffered burns to her face, fire officials said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Earlier in the afternoon during a different blaze, one unit of a four-unit, two-story apartment was destroyed at East Tyler Avenue and North First Street after a fire erupted about 2:30 p.m., said fire spokesman Jonathan Lopez Galvan.

In that fire, firefighters were able to save the remaining three units.

Lopez Galvan said although all of the units were vacant, there was evidence that someone had been living there without permission. Investigators believe that the fire was set intentionally and it is being investigated as arson, he added.
