Triple digits expected to interrupt Valley’s cooling trend
Expect a brief return to triple-digit temperatures later this week in the central San Joaquin Valley.
The National Weather Service is forecasting daytime temperatures in the low 90s in Fresno until Thursday and Friday, when the temperature is expected to reach 100.
The last time Fresno hit a high of 100 was July 4, said Gary Sanger, a weather service meteorologist based in Hanford.
Sanger added that, so far, the holiday was the warmest day of July, with the temperature reaching 104.
“There’s a low-pressure system that’s over California, generally bringing in cooler weather,” Sanger said. “Marine air from the coast is filtering throughout the Valley.”
Sanger expects temperatures will return to near normal Tuesday, continuing to warm up as the low-pressure system weakens Thursday and Friday.
Despite daytime temperatures forecasted to reach 100 later in the week, Sanger said moisture and cloud cover will push temperatures back to the mid- to low 90s Saturday and Sunday, causing warm and muggy nights throughout the weekend.
