Officials abruptly closed multiple lanes of Highway 99 on Wednesday morning for emergency repairs, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The need for emergency repairs at a Caltrans facility led to the closures as of about 8:30 a.m., according to posts on Facebook and Twitter from the same time.

Caltrans gave no timeline for the length of the closure for the section near downtown.

Officials closed:

  • The slow lane of southbound 99 between Highway 180 and Fresno Street
  • The eastbound connector of Highway 180 to southbound Highway 99
  • The Stanislaus Street off-ramp from southbound Highway 99
