CCSPCA offering Leptospirosis vaccines for dogs at $6

Central California Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will offer dog vaccines against leptospirosis for $6 starting Monday.

There have been nine confirmed cases of the disease in the Fresno area. The infected dogs frequented the El Capitan and Woodward Park dog parks.

The disease is spread through contact with an infected dog’s urine and can be transferred to humans as well.

Symptoms in dogs include fever, shivering, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, appetite loss, changes in water intake and urination, eye inflammation or yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes. The disease can cause kidney and liver failures. Consult your vet if your dog shows these symptoms.

In humans, the disease manifests as flu-like symptoms and a doctor should be consulted.

Call (559) 237-1125 to make an appointment for a vaccination.
