Driver killed in alleged DUI crash, Fresno County coroner says. 2 children were passengers
A 31-year-old woman died in a suspected DUI crash that also involved children in Reedley, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.
Officers were called to Manning Avenue east of Porter Avenue after midnight when someone reported a person yelling for help, CHP said.
Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to the fatal crash to find an overturned Toyota sedan in an orange grove, CHP said.
The driver was identified Friday by the coroner’s office as Angelica Lepiz of Orange Cove. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 29-year-old man in the car had moderate injuries, CHP said. His two children — a 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl — were not injured.
“Miraculously, both children were not injured due to the proper use of a car seats,” CHP said in a news release.
The father was transported to a Reedley hospital for treatment, CHP said, and the children were released to a relative.
DUI is suspected to be a factor in this crash, CHP said about about the ongoing investigation.
