Woman struck, killed by vehicle in Clovis parking lot over the weekend identified

The woman who was struck and killed in the parking lot of a Clovis shopping center last week was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Patricia Nelson, 87, of Clovis.

Police responded to the collision in the lot on the northwest corner of Shaw and Villa avenues at 11 a.m. Saturday. Nelson was trapped under a Chevrolet Malibu.

The Clovis Fire Department was able to get Nelson out from under the car quickly and she was taken to a local hospital.

Nelson died later in the day.

Police spokesman Ty Wood said the Malibu was making a left turn in the parking lot and hit Nelson, causing her to go under the car. The driver remained on the scene.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected in the collision, Wood said.

Officers towed the car for evidence in the ongoing investigation.
