Heads up, Fresno drivers! High-speed rail construction could slow your commute to work
Commuters on Golden State Boulevard in northwest Fresno could see their drives disrupted this week by road work related to California’s high-speed rail project.
Multiple lane closures are planned by contractor Tutor-Perini / Zachry / Parsons along Golden State between Market Street and Barstow Avenue, north of Shaw Avenue. Barstow Avenue will also be closed west of San Madele Avenue, west of Golden State Boulevard.
The closures and detours are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Monday through Wednesday, according to the contractor and the California High-Speed Rail Authority. The construction involves utilities to accommodate the future bullet-train tracks.
Detour signage and flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic. Access to businesses or residents will be maintained.
Two other stretches of Golden State Boulevard to the south are also going through road and lane closures connected with the high-speed rail project.
Surveying work is scheduled to continue between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Oct. 17 on Richert Avenue between Swift Avenue and Golden State. Richert Avenue is closed during those hours while the work is taking place.
Utility work is creating lane closures on Golden State between Belmont and Olive avenues in central Fresno through the end of October. Utility work related to the train project is happening from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
All three areas are part of the initial 32-mile construction package of the high-speed rail project from north of Madera to south of Fresno.
