Harley rider from Ceres dies in Fresno crash triggered by roadway obstruction, the CHP says
Details of a fatal collision involving a Harley-Davidson and a Toyota Corolla were released Sunday by the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place about 7:30 p.m. Friday on southbound Highway 99 north of Shaw Avenue in Fresno. The CHP said the motorcycle rider, from Ceres, was in the left lane when he failed to notice an obstruction in the roadway and ran over the object.
It caused the 29-year-old man to be thrown from the motorcycle, and he landed in the right lane. He was struck by the Toyota, driven by a 28-year-old woman from Fresno.
The motorcyclist was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. The other driver was not hurt.
On Monday, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Caleb Carias-Jurado, 29, of Ceres.
It was not known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor, pending a toxicology report that normally takes several weeks, but the CHP stated the Toyota driver “had no signs of impairment.”
