Greek Fest is back with music, dancing — and, of course, food

Greek Fest is back with a twist.

The food never went away during the pandemic, as the volunteers who make one of Fresno’s biggest festivals a success shared dolmades, gyros and more at a drive-thru event and street fairs.

Now the traditional Greek dancing and music that’s a signature of the event is back for the 60th annual rendition this weekend at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in central Fresno.

“It’s something that everybody in Fresno knows about,” says Greek Fest volunteer Don Cardell. “We look so forward to having all our friends come and greet us and meet new people who haven’t had the opportunity to be here before.”

The twist: moving from its traditional late-August weekend to (successfully) beat the heat.

The festival started Friday and continues Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $7, $5 for seniors (65-plus) and free for children under 12 and active military with ID. The church is at the southwest corner of First Street and Clinton Avenue.
