Mountain lion wanders into Central Valley neighborhood. Here’s what happened next

A mountain lion that wandered into a Visalia neighborhood early Sunday was tranquilized and captured safely, police said in a statement.

Visalia police responded at 12:42 a.m. to a report of a mountain lion spotted somewhere in the 1900 block of West Porter Avenue.

Officers spotted the big cat a short time later in the 2000 block of West Sedona Avenue.

California Fish and Wildlife wardens deployed a tranquilizer to capture the animal safely. Police said wardens transported the sleeping cat to a “suitable habitat” and released it back into the wild.

Images released by Visalia police appear to show the animal crouched near a fence in the yard of someone’s home.
