Update: Wildfire near Shaver in Fresno County under control. Evacuation warning lifted

A fire that erupted Friday afternoon southeast of Shaver Lake was brought under control quickly after it burned about 5 acres, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The Nutmeg Fire broke out in Blue Canyon, southeast of Shaver Lake, and sent U.S. Forest Service fire crews scrambling to the area with heavy equipment.

CalFire spokesman John Dominguez confirmed the fire, but said the Forest Service was taking the lead in fighting the blaze.

Fresno Assemblyman Jim Patterson reported the blaze was just off Dinkey Creek Road.

He said 10 engines, three helicopters and three air tankers were en route.

The sheriff’s office issued a preliminary evacuation warning for the fire, but called that off and by 5 p.m., reported that the perimeter of the blaze had been covered with fire retardant.
