I-5 over Grapevine closed in both directions for wildfire. Unknown duration, Caltrans says
Motorists traveling to and from Southern California will need to take an alternate route after a wildfire erupted Wednesday afternoon on the Grapevine.
Interstate 5 is closed in both directions near Castaic because of the Route Fire that was sparked at 12:01 p.m.
UPDATE: Traffic still impacted Thursday as fire grows to 5,200 acres
The wildfire was 165 acres, but grew to 4,625 acres with no containment as of 7:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
The wild fire is located at I-5 and Lake Hughes Road.
Caltrans said northbound traffic is stopped at Parker Road and southbound traffic is stopped at Templin Highway for an unknown duration.
Caltrans advised drivers to take Route 14 or Route 138. The other alternatives are northbound 14 or westbound Route 126 to northbound 101. The southbound traffic is being diverted to eastbound Route 138 to southbound 14 to reach southbound I-5 near Santa Clarita. Caltrans said to avoid the I-5 in Castaic.
